2000’s Music

Alternative (formerly called Alternative Music) became real mainstream and included bands like Arctic Monkey, Blink-182, Foo Fighter, The Killers, The Strokes and The White Stripes.

Britpop In Britain, post punk revival and alternative rock were at the height of their popularity with acts such as Coldplay, The Libertines, Oasis, Travis, Dido, Blur, The Hives, Björk, and Radiohead, which still continued at the top of the major charts in the rest of the world since the 1990s.

Country popularity among the mainstream audience dipped slightly, the music continued to rise in sales, having a strong niche in the music industry. The genre saw the rise of new front-runners like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Miley Cyrus, who was able to score top hits on all-genre Billboard charts, apart from the country charts, by appealing to a wider audience outside the genre.

Hip Hop & Rap dominated popular music this decade. Hip Hop made it to mainstream in the early 2000s. Artists such as Eminem (became the best-selling rapper of all time), Outkast, Black Eyed Peas, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Nelly, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, M.I.A. and Ludacris.

Pop Music soared on charts with artists like Usher, Alicia Keys, Amy Winehouse (became one of the biggest British soul artists of the decade who died real young.), Beyoncé, Dido (began mid 1970’s), Mary J. Blige, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.
